Spring is around the corner!

Spring may be showing its splashy colors through most of the lower 48, but those colors haven’t hit Paradox yet. A week ago the lake was mostly frozen, but after several extremely warm days, it looks like the ice will be out very soon.  (Schroon Lake announced Ice Out on Wednesday morning 4/12 at 2:48 A.M.) The loons are back - there was one singing away last night -dark eyed juncos have been pecking around, and robins are back and starting to build their nests. 

New York's burn ban is in effect till May 14, meaning no open fires permitted. 

Update from the Invasives Committee

Our NYDEC and APA permit applications for the 2023 herbicide ProcellaCOR treatments have been submitted for a June 2023 treatment. The association mailed out explanatory letters to all lake shore owners in the winter, and the January newsletters updated our membership about it.  The responses we received were positive and a number of them were accompanied by generous donations. Thank you! 

More recently the APA sent notices of the planned application of the herbicide to all abutters of the potential areas of application (the Inlet Bay and east end of the Narrows) and wider dispersal areas.  This is a normal part of their process and doesn't signify approval. We expect to hear whether the application has been approved in May. 

Looking for Divers!

We are looking for volunteers who are experienced snorkelers or scuba divers to help with milfoil removal. Whether you can spare a few hours per season, or many more, all will be welcomed! We will train all volunteers on how to properly remove milfoil plants and roots.

May is Membership Month

But hey, it's only April!

May will be here soon, and with May comes our annual campaign for member dues and donations. We are making some modifications to our member donation page on the website, which we hope will streamline the donation process and make it more user friendly.  It should be up on the website soon. 

This year's effort continues the major Milfoil initiative started last year. Our need for additional funding continues and we are confident that our members will once again step up to support it. Donations from our members is our single largest source of income.
