June 23, 2023 Dear Subscriber Full Name, The Paradox Lake Association wants to welcome everyone back to the lake for the summer of 2023. The days are long now, the lake water is warming up, the loons are calling all day and night and are tending to their eggs. Many of you have started to enjoy ‘summer’ already, although the warm temperatures of late April and May seemed to disappear for a few weeks there. Others of you will find your summer at the lake sometime in the coming months. I want to take this opportunity to remind everyone of a couple of important things that are coming up soon. May is Membership! - We’re happy to report that many of you have responded to our May is Membership email, have joined the PLA for 2023 and have made generous donations to help the fight against milfoil. However, we haven’t yet heard from a number of 2021 and 2022 members. I encourage everyone to go to our website (https://paradox-lake.com/#) and either join the PLA on line or print out the form to mail in with your membership check and donation. Your support is more important than ever to ensure the PLA is able to deliver on our mission to protect and preserve our beautiful Paradox Lake. Historically we have had about 60% of the lake residents join the PLA. We all enjoy the fruits of the work conducted by the PLA board and all the volunteers so it would be great if all the residents were members. I’d like to ask each of you to talk to your neighbors and if they are not members of the PLA, please encourage them to join. Members Annual Business meeting is Thursday July 27 – Our annual business meeting is held so you the members get a chance to hear directly from the Board of Directors what the PLA has been doing to protect the lake and to raise any questions you have to the Board. This year, the Members Business meeting will be held in the evening of July 27. This meeting was historically a face-to-face meeting held in the Schroon Lake town hall. Covid forced us to change the meeting to a Zoom meeting, and to be honest, the number of attendees significantly increased. Since we hope to have as many members as possible attend the meeting, we are going to hold the 2023 meeting via Zoom again. So mark the date on your calendars and we’ll be sending out an invitation to the Zoom meeting within the next week or two. Finally, we are always looking for volunteers – There are lots of ways you can volunteer but we are specifically looking for people to help scout for milfoil as well as snorkelers and scuba divers who can commit some time this summer to help remove it. Any amount of time that you can offer scouting will help our contract divers be more effective while snorkelers and divers can join our group of volunteers tending to areas with lower milfoil density where our contractor is not cost effective.
