We hope you enjoyed warm, safe, and fulfilling holidays! While this year certainly didn’t go as planned, it’s ending with some light, with the vaccine rolling out, and hopefully, less chaos.
At Paradox, the lake had mostly frozen over during last week’s cold spell, but the return of warmer weather and rain on Christmas Eve have wiped out most of the ice and snow. Fortunately the predicted strong winds did not materialize, yet, and power stayed on.

With all the rain that fell on Christmas Eve, Paradox Creek was running very high today where it crosses under Fraternaland Road, so the lake level should follow suit quickly!
As in much of the US, lots of cloud cover on the evening of the Winter Solstice prevented us from seeing the much acclaimed conjunction of Jupiter and Saturn, but the planets were readily visible last week on a couple of clear evenings.
We thank you for the tremendous support you have shown the PLA this past year. Despite our having to cancel social events this year, many people came out to support invasives removal efforts, both in person and financially, and you had a large impact on the quality of our lake. Next year we hope to be able to continue our work on the quality of the lake, and to be able to safely resume our social activities.
