We had a very well-attended in person State of the Lake Meeting on June 25 at the SL Town Hall. Brian Greene of the Nature Conservancy gave a very informative presentation about aquatic invasive plants and the strategies for managing them. There were many insightful questions asked and answered. The Powerpoint presentation of the Board Members’ part of the meeting can be found on our website here.

Our Annual Board Meeting will take place on ZOOM on Sept 20. Please try to attend. We’ll be electing up to 5 new Board Members, and you need to be present (virtually) to vote. More on that in a separate email!

May was Membership Month

But renewals keep flowing in!
Through early July, we have 154 paid members, with dues and contributions totaling $32,521. Thank you! We've already exceeded last year's year-end total by $6,000 but we're still $2,000 short of reaching our goal of $34,500. We had 206 members in 2021, so we'll be mailing reminders soon to those we're still missing. You can save us the expense of contacting you by mail by going to our website www.paradox-lake.com and clicking on "Join or renew your membership" and make a secure payment by credit card. And don't forget...recruit your neighbor! Thank you again for your generous support.

August 21 Annual Picnic and Paddle Race

The Picnic this year will be a blast! It will be at the Camp Southwoods Beach (yeah, the one with all those cool inflatable toys on the Lower Lake) from 12 to 4. Food will be catered by Paradox Lake’s own caterer, Paradox Thyme. There will be live Bluegrass music. The inflatable toys will be there. Tours of the camp will be available to all who are interested. And all that for just $10 per adult over 12! But you have to register by August 14 - there will be no payments accepted on the day. So register here now! And bring your visitors, friends, family! All are welcome, but must register in advance.

And while you’re registering, you could sign up to join the fun Paddle Race! This will be a 1 mile paddle on anything with a paddle (canoe, kayak, SUP, inner tube(?)). Since the race is a fundraiser, each eligible paddler must raise $300. Consider donating to one or more of the paddlers already registered.

Update from the Invasives Committee

Aqualogic has been out on the lake every weekday since Memorial Day harvesting and scouting for milfoil supplemented by our enthusiastic volunteer teams. The Invasives Steering Committee has been actively coordinating these efforts, and the Milfoil Tracking App deployed this year is providing them with accurate data to help with that coordination.

Things are moving forward with our 3 year plan to mitigate the milfoil situation in the lake. In anticipation of applying for a permit to use the herbicide ProcellaCor next spring, we’ve hired a professional to do the required plant survey later in the summer, and a team from the APA will be here on August 9 to do an on site inspection.

At this time only 6 people have used the Groups.IO forum to join a Paradox Directory, and there have been very few conversations on the forum. If there isn’t more interest, we will terminate our experimental participation in this forum at the end of August. If you’d like to participate, and need some technical assistance, click here.
