May is Membership

Dear PLA Member,
Well, 2026 was a cold winter and it seems that winter is reluctant to give up easily. This spring has given us some brief glimpses of the coming warm days, but has also given us a little April snow. Soon enough though, Paradox Lake will be warming up for everyone to enjoy!

May is Membership Month for the Paradox Lake Association so it’s time to renew your membership or to become a Paradox Lake Association member for the first time. The PLA hopes that everyone who lives at the lake, or enjoys time at the lake, will support the good work done by the PLA year after year to protect the lake and help preserve it for your enjoyment.

Your membership fees, and additional donations, are critical to carrying out our mission to protect and preserve our beautiful Paradox Lake. Some of our key activities include:

·    Water quality testing and analysis

·    Eurasian Water milfoil scouting and harvesting

·    New aquatic invasive plant prevention

·    Lake steward and Rt 74 boat wash station support

·    Monitor for potential new threats to the lake

·    Support for legislative efforts to strengthen protections for the lake

·    Build our Paradox Lake Community

During 2025, the PLA was able to confirm that our work during 2021-2024 had very significantly reduced the Eurasian Watermilfoil population in the lake but determined that the remaining populations would require a continuation of our contract harvesting efforts into the future. The PLA also spearheaded an effort to obtain a NYSDEC grant to provide additional staffing for lake stewards and boat decontamination on Rt 74 during 2026 – 2028 to prevent the introduction of additional invasive species. Finally, we staffed an effort to learn more about the risks posed to our hemlock trees by the Hemlock Woolly Adelgid with plans to conduct education and mitigation efforts in the future.
