MILFOIL HARVESTING UPDATE
Aqualogic has completed Phase One of a Three Phase contract to remove Milfoil from Paradox Lake.
Although we had planned an earlier start it was pushed out a couple of weeks due to the high water levels and inability of volunteers to get out on the water to mark plants. Phase one took place the first week of June. They spent four days harvesting at the east end of the Upper Lake and a fifth day in the wide area of the Eastern narrows. Unfortunately there was continued growth in these areas, although due to an earlier start the plants were not as fragile as they become later in the season. There were also areas that could be more easily accessed due to the high water and lack of lily pad growth.
They are scheduled to perform Phase 2 beginning Saturday, June 29th for another 5 days. The plan is to have them dive on Monday and Tuesday in the Narrows prior to the heavier boat traffic expected later in the week with the 4th of July Holiday. After the Narrows they will be diving near Grass Island and continuing back to the Eastern end of the lake.
As always your assistance would be helpful marking plants prior to their arrival and looking for fragments while they are diving. Markers are available outside the white shed at 336 Fraternaland Road.
Please take caution while going thru the Narrows and give them a safe distance during this time period.
Thanks and have a Safe and fun Holiday.
